St. Francis HI School Pathankot is the only deaf school in the area. The school has reached tenth standard and is affiliated to Punjab State Education Board and the first batch would be appearing for the tenth standard (Matriculation) examination in March 2019. We try to get the students at young age in order to give them Speech Therapy and Voce training. As they cannot hear, they have to depend on the visuals to learn the lessons. Therefore they are taught in sign language and the school follows the Indian Sign Language (ISL). It is hoped that they would be able to pursue their degree courses at university level where the sign language is the medium of instruction.
Yes, deafness is a disability which does not prevent the individual in realizing his or her full potential if opportunity is provided. It has been the policy of Saint Francis Home Pathankot to provide the best possible facilities for the all-round growth of the child with hearing impairment. There is hostel facility for the girls.
